GBC August 16h 8:00 Poor Herbies

Hey everyone,

I am finally getting around to starting my "Guy's book club". (RSVP appreciated!)

After sitting home month after month while my wife goes out with the girls to eat, drink (and sometimes discuss the book they read which typically involved some suppressed woman in either a 3rd world country or previous century) I decided it was time for the guys to have their night out too.

I propose we have an initial meeting at Poor Herbies on Thursday, August 16h at 8:00 P.M. This will give us a chance to drink some beers, hang out, and decide if we want to create this book club! Please be prepared to discuss the following:

  • Frequency of the book club's meetings (I suggest every other month)
  • Place to meet (I would be happy to host the first one if we decided to meet at people's houses, otherwise we can pick a new location)
  • Will the club have a genre? (I like science fiction/fantasy, but I'm also open to anything)
  • What will be our first book? ( I will probably toss out two books:
  1. His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman
  2. On Call in Hell: a Doctor's Iraq War Story by Cdr Richard Jadick. Hopefully everyone will have suggestions so we have a great list to choose from)

Let me know if you would like to join the club ( and can make the 16th).

Let me know if there is anyone else you would like to invite to join our club.

Let me know if you have any books you would like to suggest.

Thanks! I think this will be fun.

Scott Moore

P.S. No one in this club will be REQUIRED to drink beer at any time. (you are also not required to read the book if you are just in the club for the beer…)
